WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: FLOODING DIDN’T STOP THIS BEAUTIFUL WEDDING…

Thanks to Lacey Dale Photography of Lusk for sharing this wedding with us!

So imagine this … Anne and Andrew were married June 6, 2015, right after the Thursday flash flood in Lusk that took out the overpass on the north side of town (the side heading to Andrew’s family ranch where they planned to be married). THEN, the Niobrara County Fairgrounds were taken over by the Red Cross, National Guard and unfortunate families who lost their homes in the flood took over the reception site … so needless to say, they had to improvise. The Niobrara Country Club, in Lusk, became the new location, and the couple and their families pulled it off beautifully!

Here’s what the bride, Anne, had to say about the rushed change in plans …

“Although the flood caused havoc and destruction, it really showed what the community is about. We had planned to have our wedding at the fairgrounds in the beef barn. Being the planner I am, we set up a lot on Wednesday hoping the rest of the week could be relaxed.  Then we woke up on Thursday morning to find half of the town underwater.  We worked Thursday and Friday, alongside others, cleaning up the town and pumping out basements, and Friday decided we had better figure out where the wedding was going to be.  All roads around Lusk were closed, with no power and no potable water. Nevertheless, we knew we wanted to have our wedding in Lusk, even if our expected 500 weddings guests would only be 50.

“Friday afternoon we found the country club was open, and after a little tweaking with the power, we were set.  Saturday morning we set up for the wedding. We tore everything down at the fairgrounds that we had set up previously, and with the help of many, many family and friends, we set up a tent that a group had lent us.  Our table and chairs and flower people went around road closures signs to get here.  For some unknown reason I decided to do my own flowers (which I had NO experience doing), and a woman that I barely knew, along with some amazing family members and friends, came out of the woodwork to create the centerpieces and bouquets. Our band went around booms and convinced highway patrolmen to let them through. And our guests form Casper (which is where I am from), Nebraska, North Dakota, Colorado, Hawaii, Wisconsin, and everywhere in between traveled different routes and, once again, through road closures to come celebrate. My hair and makeup person spent Saturday morning helping us set up, and hurried to make all of my bridesmaids and myself feel amazing without being a minute late.  People simply showed up to help, my family (which is quite large) all made it, and spent the days leading up, with what we thought would be filled with massages, pedicures, and golf, working their tails off.

“Our photographer was a dear friend of ours, and we were her first wedding experience. She wowed us with her skill, as you can see in the amazing photographs. It turned out to be the best day, and although we had a little rain shower after the ceremony, it brought a double rainbow, which made for a beautiful night. I just really wanted to share our story not necessarily because I want to talk about our wedding, but more I want people to know about this community, our family and friends that helped pull off a day we will never forget.”

Being the planner I was too when it came to our wedding, I am shuddering at the thought of what Anne & Andrew had to go through! This is an incredible story. Way to improvise guys – the moral of the story is they celebrated their love & marriage, no matter what happened to the best laid plans. Thanks to Lacey Dale Photography for sharing this event with us – and congrats to Anne & Andrew! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
