And they&#8217;re all, &#8220;<em>Hi, you need to register for at\u00a0<strong>least<\/strong> 300 things.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><br \/>\nI get that the whole idea behind registries is to ask for the things you need\/want, but for seriously. I go directly for clearance racks, do not pass go, when I shop for 90% of the things that I bring home. And here we are in this mecca of overpriced dishware, where I&#8217;m supposed to find 300 things I absolutely cannot survive my first year of marriage without?<br \/>\nThe towels there suck, so already we&#8217;re screwed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Would you like to look at our luggage?<\/span><\/strong>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Our bridal consultant\u2014a chipper girl, all business in her button-down\u2014passes a binder across the table, filled with laminated pages of ugly luggage for us to page through while she enters our info into the computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">If I&#8217;m getting luggage, it&#8217;s going to be fabulous; none of this blah-brown-boring nonsense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">How about the finer China<\/span><\/strong>?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">A recurring theme within our wedding planning seemed to be &#8220;Scandalizing the Nice Ladies Who Don&#8217;t Understand Why.&#8221; In the battle previous, we\u2019d thoroughly horrified the Nice Lady at the jewelry store when we were pricing bands for my husband-to-be.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">After I refused to be turned to dazzled putty by the array of over-blinged rings the saleslady kept parading past me, in between the bands for my then-almost-husband, she declared, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Do you even have any idea what kind of wedding band you want<\/span><\/strong>?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">*raises left hand sparkler* &#8220;Just this one.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">But.. but you HAVE to have a BAND<\/span><\/strong>!&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">I could see her mind melting as I shook my head no, confirming that, ohmygod guys, I was not going to have a wedding band.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Oh, the scandal.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">And when we registered for wedding gifts mere months before our October wedding, the trend continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">No, we&#8217;re really not fine China kind of people<\/span><\/em>,&#8221; I\u2019m telling our consultant.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">And really, when I\u2019m sitting there with a guy who has 2\u201d holes in his earlobes\u2026 why are you assuming we want a side of fine China to go?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">But what about in the future, like when you have family over for Thanksgiving?<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">she presses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">&#8220;<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">They&#8217;ll be happy with whatever dishes we have around. I promise<\/span><\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Having successfully navigated through the treacherous forests of luggage &amp;amp; overpriced dishes, we were at last rewarded with the scanner; the coveted electronic, bestowing upon us the power to run madly through the store, beeping left and right at anything and everything that caught our fancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">The first thing Gus scanned was me.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">We started on the side of the store where the bathroom decor\/bedding lives, as we were advised to do by our button-down friend because &#8220;the kitchen gadgets and stuff really tend to overwhelm people.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><br \/>\nThe thing is, when you&#8217;re not that person who can look at a $25 bathroom trash can and think, &#8220;<em>Oh, how affordable<\/em>!&#8221;, registering is sort of a nightmare. I&#8217;m standing there, realizing that trash bags FOR aforementioned trash can are $15\/pack, and thinking to myself, &#8220;<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">This is sick, dude. I wouldn&#8217;t buy this for myself, so why would I more or less be asking other people to buy it for me<\/span><\/em>?&#8221;<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Gus is losing his mind, scanning shower heads (<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">two, for the record<\/span><\/em>) and gleefully aiming the scanner at choice parts of my body every so often.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><br \/>\nBy the time we&#8217;d successfully made our way around the entire store\u2014&amp;amp; for the record, homegirl was right&#8230; that kitchen gadget section? INTENSE\u2014it had been ninety minutes and we were seriously exhausted. The original plan to continue our registry adventures at Target? Axed.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">For serious, we had the most random assortment of things on there. Highlights included\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bedbathandbeyond.com\/product.asp?BRN=1&amp;sku=16521159&amp;\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">this really cute beverage dispenser<\/span><\/a> (<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">quoth the future husband, <\/span><\/em>&#8220;<em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Won&#8217;t this be cool to put on our patio someday, when we\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">have<\/span> a patio<\/span><\/strong><\/em>?&#8221;), Twist hair towels,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bedbathandbeyond.com\/product.asp?BRN=1&amp;sku=16677213&amp;\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">The\u00a0Windshield Wonder<\/span><\/a> (<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">because you can&#8217;t deny its wonder; seriously, that&#8217;s COOL<\/span><\/em>), something like 7 different candles (<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">including one in the flavor of &#8220;Sparkle,&#8221; natch<\/span><\/em>), a random set of $169 knives\u2014oh, and quite possibly some Razzles, mini Toblerones, M&amp;amp;M&#8217;s and dark chocolate Raisinets. Because I was all\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">*haha jokingly scans them*<\/span><\/strong> and then it actually worked. So I kept not-so-jokingly going.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">(<em>By the way; every single piece of candy we scanned? We got it for our wedding. Score.<\/em>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Final total for our registry? 113.<br \/>\nNumber of times the future husband scanned\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">me?<\/span><\/em> 7.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Ashley, I seriously laughed out loud when I read this! Levi &amp;amp; I were remembering our own phone call from a shop where we had registered, asking &#8216;Are you SURE you want mismatched pottery?! You really should register for one style.&#8217; I thought the same thing &#8212; &#8216;No, I like mismatched pottery thank you! One style would get boring!&#8217; The scandal indeed!
